Palace on Wheels a luxury tourist train that is run jointly by Department of Tourism, Rajasthan and Indian Railway.

While all the marketing, sales, and facilities are managed by Rajasthan Tourism, Indian Railway takes care of its maintenance and providing technical staff.

Revenue earned from running the train are jointly shared by Rajasthan Tourism and Indian Railway.

Indian Railway does not book Palace on Wheels. The responsibility is with Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC), which does this through its travel agents.

Palace on Wheels runs only from September to April, as summers
quite hot in Northern part of India and very few tourists
venture out to this part of the world.

The train starts its journey from Safdarjang Railway Station -
a small and peaceful rail station near to airport.

There is a separate reception area for Palace on Wheels
passengers at the railway station. Once you reaches the station,
its very easy to find its location, as an extended reception
area is created in front of the station building itself. You
need to park your vehicle just in front of the reception area.

There is no formal dress code on the train, but it is better if
you have formal jackets for the dinner.

Don't carry big pieces of luggage with you. Try to carry few
small pieces which can be placed anywhere in your cabin.

Temperatures can vary from a minimum of 2.5°
C to a maximum of 35° C during the period of operation of Palace on
Wheels. September and April are most warm while December and
January are coldest.

Try to arrive Delhi at least a day before
the tour departure. Dense fog during the winters can delay your
flights and you will carry a risk by not reaching the city
earlier.
